Emergency Department

In the Event of an Emergency Dial 911

The Emergency Department (ED) at Washington Adventist Hospital provides health care services to over 40,000 patients each year ranging in age from newborns to the elderly. We are open 24 hours a day, seven days a week and are committed to providing the highest quality emergency care in an efficient and timely manner. Our doors are open to anyone in need of emergency medical services.

Our Team

Our collaborative team of highly trained specialty nurses, physicians and medical technicians are all involved in a patient's care - right from the start. This coordinated care approach allows patients to receive quality care faster and return home, where they truly want to be.

The triage nurse is the first health care professional that a patient sees in the ED. The triage nurse assesses a patient within minutes to ensure that the most acute cases are treated first. Emergent cases are seen immediately by a physician. Urgent cases are next in line followed by non-urgent cases.

Coordinated Care

Our coordinated care approach ensures that patients with the most severe, life-threatening medical conditions get immediate attention, while at the same time those with minor illnesses and injuries are seen in a separate "fast-track" area where they can receive the tests and treatment they need quickly and efficiently.

To help each patient achieve a full and healthy recovery, our coordinated team works with patients to put appropriate plans in place for them to see a physician. This provides patients with care and support to help manage any hurdles that might arise after their discharge from the ED. For those who are admitted to the hospital, the initial steps taken in the ED facilitate the patient's healing process.
