Are you experiencing a loss through the death of a loved one or divorce? Are you going through a job loss, a life threatening illness or other painful event? Loss has a way of shattering expectations, plans, hopes and dreams. It may affect the way you function in daily life.

Pastoral Care Services of Washington Adventist Hospital is here to support you in your grieving process. Grief Care offers help and hope in your journey through grief.

Our support groups provide a nurturing and safe environment:

  • Where people may grieve at their own pace without confrontation, comparison or judgement
  • Where grieving people may share as they feel comfortable and receive support from the group
  • With helpful tools for coping, processing and healing
  • As a "launching pad" toward reorganization and reinvestment in life

Our Approach

Group interaction, mutual support, informal teaching and videos are included in the sessions. In addition, reading materials, individualized assistance and follow-up groups will be offered. The individual uniqueness of each person's experience is honored and respected throughout the sessions. We will be exploring these topics:

  • Good Grief! (A Closer Look at Grief)
  • Giving Yourself Permission to Grieve
  • Grieving in Your Own Way
  • Taking Care of Yourself While Grieving
  • Dealing With Difficult Feelings: Sadness, Stress,
  • Anger, Guilt, Loneliness or Despair
  • Tools for the Recovery Process
  • Handling Birthdays, Anniversaries and Holidays
  • Learning to Transform Relationships After Loss

How to Participate

Grief Care is a FREE service offered to the community by Washington Adventist Hospital. Each group session meets for six (6) consecutive Tuesday evenings, 7:00-9:00pm, in Conference Room A, near the cafeteria. Group size is limited.
