Continued Use of Takoma Park, MD Campus
Washington Adventist Hospital is committed to ensuring that there is continued access to needed primary health-care services in Takoma Park and its surrounding communities now, and in the future. The continued use of our Takoma Park campus as the Village of Education, Health and Well-being, combined with the relocated hospital in White Oak, will further our mission to strengthen the region’s health care infrastructure and expand access to quality health-care in the communities we serve.
Through our important partnerships with Washington Adventist University, Mary’s Center, and others, the Village will not only provide health-care and wellness services, but education and research opportunities, as well.
Work to refine and implement plans for the Village will continue over the next several years. Community input and engagement has been an important part of the planning process from the beginning and will continue as plans move forward. Additional information outlining plans for the Village was recently submitted to the Maryland Health Care Commission.
Health-Care Services
The Village’s health-care service offerings will include:
- Primary and urgent care services, including Mary’s Center
- Adventist Rehabilitation Hospital of Maryland inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation services
- Adventist Behavioral Health clinic
We continue to explore arrangements for future health and wellness opportunities with potential partners. We look forward to keeping you updated on these plans.
Washington Adventist University
Washington Adventist Hospital continues to work with its neighbor and partner, Washington Adventist University, to plan for the utilization of hospital space for classrooms and other University functions. The 100-year relationship with the University will expand to include:
- Creation of clinical simulation learning environments
- Ability for nursing faculty and students to work in the primary and urgent care center
- Expansion of University’s School of Health Professions, Science and Wellness
The partnership between Washington Adventist Hospital and Washington Adventist University has already been instrumental in helping the University double its nursing enrollment.
Also, as part of the Village, the University and Adventist HealthCare are working with the community on plans for a Fitness and Wellness Center on the University’s campus.
Mary’s Center
Washington Adventist Hospital is again partnering with Mary’s Center, a federally qualified, comprehensive health center, to expand health-care access to the underserved by opening a second clinic in the hospital’s service area. The new primary care clinic is scheduled to open on the hospital’s Takoma Park campus in late 2011.
Mary’s Center serves more than 3,000 low-income and uninsured patients each year from Montgomery and Prince George’s counties, regardless of ability to pay. It is projected that the Takoma Park clinic will allow an additional 3,000 people to get necessary health care each year.
The new clinic will be located at 7610 Carroll Avenue, in the professional building adjacent to the hospital, and will be Mary’s Center’s second location in Montgomery County. In 2008, Washington Adventist and Mary’s Center partnered to open a clinic in the Long Branch section of east Silver Spring.
Additionally, the two organizations will work together to develop a comprehensive plan which will allow Mary’s Center to operate a primary and urgent care center on the Takoma Park campus as part of the Village once the hospital relocates to White Oak.
